A forest type normally dominated by tree shrubs of the Fagaceae, Myrtaceae and Lauraceae families and generally occurring 1,200 to 1,500 meters above sea level. Also known as Montane Oak Forest. Note: In Sabah, this forest type occurs at elevation between 1,000 to 2,500 meters above sea level. The elevation above sea level where this forest changes to montane forest differs from one mountain to another. The recognizable altitudinal zonation in Peninsular Malaysia is obscured in Sabah and Sarawak
